Funding breakthroughs
We invest in every facet of ALS research so that scientific progress can advance faster than the disease.
We’re powering science that moves faster than ALS, so we can find effective treatments sooner, and inspire hope for everyone affected by this devastating disease today.
Today, an ALS diagnosis means that people only have two to five years to live—turning life into a race against time. We’re slowing the trajectory and our pace is driving progress. Our Innovation Ecosystem is transforming ALS research by breaking down barriers that have long slowed progress.
Target ALS brings together leading scientists from academia and industry to work side by side, filling critical gaps in knowledge and generating high-quality data that’s shared freely with the global research community, with no strings attached. We believe that research is the highest form of care. Every collaboration we forge and every grant moves us closer to developing treatments for people with ALS that can change their lives.
For decades, ALS research progressed at a glacial pace, hampered by red tape and a lack of collaboration. Now, our collaborative efforts are leading to some of the first potentially viable treatments for ALS since the disease was identified in 1869.
Our three-pillar model drives progress by funding top scientists to conduct cutting-edge research, providing tools and resources that are openly available to the entire ALS community, and generating rich clinical and multi-omic datasets from people living with ALS, all shared freely through our online Data Engine. Together, these pillars remove barriers that slow scientific progress and accelerate the discovery of new breakthroughs.
We invest in every facet of ALS research so that scientific progress can advance faster than the disease.
We provide scientists with access to critical ALS research tools and resources with no strings attached.
We are reshaping research and how ALS is understood with studies powered by our ALS Global Research Initiative (AGRI).
We’re not waiting for change—we’re building it. Our approach is guided by a charge to act with impatient optimism, create deliberate disruption, and champion radical collaboration.
Our focus on breaking down barriers to research is leading the way to effective treatments and creating hope for a better future.
With our Innovation Ecosystem model, we are revolutionizing ALS research and making it the highest form of care.
Our work is more than research; it’s innovation with real potential to change lives and transform the future of ALS treatments.
Become a member of the Target ALS community today to drive our efforts to discover viable treatments for everyone with ALS.
We were founded in 2013 by Dan Doctoroff, former NYC Deputy Mayor for Economic Development and Rebuilding under Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Dan has lived with ALS since 2021 and lost both his father and uncle to the disease.
Dan’s personal connection to ALS and talents as a driver of collaboration led to the creation of Target ALS. His inspiring vision has brought together every stakeholder to the table to achieve incredible breakthroughs and advance ALS research.
